About Us

Velo West School of Bicycle Mechanics is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making bike education accessible, inclusive, and practical for people at every stage of their cycling journey.

We believe bike education should meet people where they are—whether you’re training for a career in a modern bike shop, a confident rider who wants to maintain their bike at home or on the go, or you simply want to feel more confident moving around the city by bike.

Our professional bike mechanic courses are designed for those pursuing a career in the bike industry. These programs provide hands-on, real-world training in bicycle repair, maintenance, and assembly within an active shop environment. Students develop practical, job-ready skills to meet the demands of modern bike shops.

Bike mechanic enthusiast courses are best for cyclists who want to confidently maintain their own bikes at home or make adjustments while out riding. These courses focus on essential skills like basic repairs, tuning, troubleshooting common issues, and preventative maintenance—empowering riders to be more self-sufficient and prepared.

Counterculture cycling sessions are created for people who ride bikes but don’t necessarily identify as “cyclists.” If bike shops feel intimidating, these inclusive sessions offer supportive, judgment-free learning. Expect practical tips, approachable instruction, and a welcoming space to build confidence and keep moving by bike.
